It's Lavender Harvest Time and DayBreak wants you!!

This year our volunteer efforts are focused on the two fields of lavender. We will be weeding, trimming, cultivating and planting. This nice, wet May has been as nice to the weeds as it has to our beloved lavender plants. So I'm mobilizing the forces early to get everything ship shape for our big Harvest Grand Opening on July 4.

We work in 4-hour shifts and gift each of you with a $50 Gift Certificate redeemable at our DayBreak Boutique here in Streetsboro. We are starting earlier this year and offering many more days. You have new choices as to your assignment and your time.

• Mornings starting on June 1, Wednesdays - Saturdays from 9 - 1
• Afternoons on starting June 1, Wednesday - Saturday from 1 - 5

The volunteer season will run from June 1 through July and the Harvest until August 15. But we hope you will sign up as soon as possible. It's vital for the lavender that the competing weeds be removed ASAP so their roots can expand to make it through the winter.

We will also be interplantings The Test Bed to see if we can extend it's life to 20 years. Next year it will be 10 years old!! And like all of us, it needs a bit of rejuvenation. We are working with growers in Australia who are also conducting tests to see if they can maintain beds for two decades. I want to show them what Ohio can do!!

You are cordially invited to enjoy all that the farm has to offer. Picnic by the lake. Hike our trails. Visit our Spirit Room. Make an outdoor day of it. Families are welcome. We believe that children benefit from caring for Mother Earth. (Children over 10 receive $10 Gift Certificates)

Dress for comfort, sun and for fun! Bring sun block and wear a big ol' broad-brimmed hat, clothes that can get dirty and shoes that are tight enough to keep sandy soil out. Socks that can be folded down over your boots will ensure comfort. Bring garden tools if you have them ... if not, we will have tools on hand.

The great news is that you may park at the farm. And you will want to be at U-Pick Welcome desk 15 minutes before your shift begins to sign in so your Gift Certificate can be ready when you sign out.
